Hear me sing in a new ad for Footlocker

A big part of my career is singing commercial jingles. I sort of fell into it many years ago and it’s been going steady ever since. Here’s a fun one I sang recently. A new spot for Footlocker featuring a track composed by my friend, Miles Kennedy of Jingle Punks. They wanted a cheesy 80’s vibe and I think we delivered. :) Hope you enjoy!

New release "Beggar's Earth"

New music from your truly! I’m really excited to present two new songs in this mini-release called, “Beggar’s Earth”.

These songs are about impermanence and my struggle to understand it. Trying like mad to get the sands in the hourglass to flow the other way, the futile wrestling match that ensues, and eventually making peace with the passage of time. I hope this music conveys my hope and my optimism because at the heart of it, I’m nothing if not a dreamer.

I sat in Xanadu (my studio in Nashville) and created tracks that told the story I wanted to tell. Then I caught a plane to Los Angeles and booked time at Lucy’s Meat Market with the amazingly talented engineer and mixer, Pete Min. Michael Duffy laid down the beat with that ridiculous groove that he owns. Sebastian Steinberg brought his Voodoo magic to the basslines and made everything feel good.

Then I asked my friend, Omniflux if she would design the cover. She listened to the songs and said the music made her imagine a circle. She designed something that truly got the feeling across and she even incorporated my handwritten lyrics for Beggar’s Song. The title of the release “Beggar’s Earth” is also the handiwork of Omniflux.

Emm Gryner in space!

I'm really excited to share this video for a song that I co-wrote and co-produced with Emm Gryner. Emm was part of David Bowie's touring band and has made a name for herself as a creative force to be reckoned with. I met Emm in New York when I was touring with "Celebrating David Bowie" last year. We immediately hit it off when she learned of my passion for science and space exploration. She introduced me to Astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, which ticked a lot of boxes in my, "life goals" list, including "Have dinner with an astronaut". I'm forever in her debt.

Emm later asked me to collaborate on her new record and of course I jumped at the chance. I had so much fun working on this.

Here's the first single, entitled "Imagination". This song features Peter Gabriel's long time guitar player David Rhodes. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out. Enjoy!

New Band, New EP

We are District Kids! About a year ago I met Paul Freeman (James Blunt, The 100 Year War) at SXSW. We had both been hired to sing at the same event. We hit it off immediately and at the suggestion of our friend Michelene, we decided to write songs together and see what happened.

Here are the results! Our first EP out today on the Jingle Punks label and available for streaming on Spotify. Hope you enjoy!

The Movie Business!

http://moviehole.net/img/IMG_7636.jpg

It has been a big month for yours truly. First, I'm honored to say that I was featured in the new Lego Ninjago Movie, singing a song called, "Operation New Me". This song was written by my friends and cohorts, "Jingle" Jared Gutstadt and Jeff Peters in collaboration with one of Japan's biggest bands, One OK Rock. I was thrilled to have the chance to sing it because it is such a fun song and also because I can now say that I was in a movie with Jackie Chan (even though we never met).

Also, opening on the same day as Ninjago (September 22nd) was a movie for which I composed the score called, "Welcome To Willits". It's a crazy, insane, gory, and funny horror movie directed by a dear friend of mine named Trevor Ryan. IFC Midnight picked it up for distribution and it is now available to rent and can be seen in select theaters. I couldn't be happier to be a part of this film!

Celebrating David Bowie

I'm very happy to announce that I'm going on the road with some of the world's most amazing musicians to celebrate the life and work of my hero, David Bowie. Musical director, "Scrote" and I have been pals for a long time, so when he asked if I'd be interested, of course I jumped at the chance. Joining us is a list of unbelievable players and performers from David's career including: Mike Garson, Adrian Belew, Earl Slick, Mark Plati, Gail Ann Dorsey, and my dear friend, Holly Palmer.

I'm honored and overwhelmed to be included in this amazing lineup. I can't wait to sing these songs. I hope to see you all on the road!

Mercies and Happy Endings Now Available

Greetings and salutations!

I'm happy to announce the release of "Mercies and Happy Endings", my newest EP. I worked with amazing musicians on the project and was guided by Blake Colie, the producer. My long time pal and collaborator, Michael Duffy played drums and laid down the stone cold groove that he's known for. Also lending to the sound was Patrick Bailey on bass and Jaime Hinskson on keys. They are all heavy cats and it was an honor to record with them. I wrote about mercy (something I'm often in need of) and happy endings (something I'm also in need of). I hope you dig it. Also, check out the dub mixes by 2000 B.C.! They're dope.

Welcome!

I'm excited to share my new website with you. I've been busy, busy, busy and have lots to tell you. If you're in the Bay Area, come to The Regency Ballroom on March 22nd and see yours truly perform with a huge ensemble of musicians in "Celebrating David Bowie with Gary Oldman and Friends". We did this at The Roxy in Los Angeles recently and it was a truly memorable night.
